----------------------------------

Quale canto s'è levato stanotte
che intesse

di cristallina eco del cuore
le stelle

Quale festa sorgiva
di cuore a nozze

Sono stato
uno stagno di buio

Ora mordo
come un bambino la mammella
lo spazio

Ora sono ubriaco
d'universo

Ο Ποταμός (The River)

The River

I have under my tongue,
Unimaginable water,
my little boat,
And curtains lowered,
let's speak.

Sailing

I am sailing, I am sailing,
home again, 'cross the sea.
I am sailing, stormy waters,
to be near you, to be free.

I am flying, I am flying,
like a bird, 'cross the sky.
I am flying, passing high clouds,
to be near you. To be free

Can you hear me? can you hear me?
Trhough the dark night, far away,
I am dying, forever crying,
to be with you, who can say?

Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Trhough the dark night far away.
I am dying, forever crying,
to be with you, who can say?

We are sailing, we are sailing,
home again 'cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,
to be near you, to be free.

Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free.
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free,
Oh Lord.

She put her hanged coat on without crying
and left-
as if she had put down the moon
hanging up the summer sky.

He did not believe it.Waited the same night,
the next day and the next.Waited.

After two weeks,by the new moon,
he knew she wouldn't come.
Only the mirror was left to remember
like an open window
in a no moon sky.
Because she had taken her coat with her...

With their country tied to their sails and their oars hung on
the wind
The shipwrecked slept tamely like dead beasts on a bedding
of sponges
But the eyes of seaweed are turned toward the sea
Hoping the South Wind
will bring them backwith their

lateen-sails new-painted
For one lost elephant is always worth
much more than the
quivering breasts of a girl
Only if the roofs of deserted chappels
should light up with the
caprice of the Evening Star
Only if birds should ripple amid the masts
of the lemon trees

With the firm white flurry of lively footsteps
Will the winds come,
the bodies of swans that remained im-
maculate, unmoving and tender
When steamrollers rolled through shops, when hurricanes
whirled through vegetation
When the eyes of women became coal and the hearts of the
chestnut hawkers were broken
When the harvest was done and the hopes of crickets began.

And indeed this is why, my brave young men, with kisses, wine,
and leaves on your mouth
I would like to stride naked by the rivers
To sing of the Barbary Coast like the woodsman hunting the
mastic shrub
Like the viper slithering through gardens of barley
With the proud eyes of irritation
Like the lightning-bolt as it threshes youth. (...)

Als Das Kind Kind War...

Γιατί είμαι εγώ εγώ και όχι εσύ;
Γιατί είμαι εγώ εδώ και όχι εκεί;
O χρόνος πότε άρχισε κι ο χώρος πού τελειώνει;
Mήπως δεν είναι παρά όνειρο η ζωή κάτω απ' τον ήλιο;
δεν είναι παρά το είδωλο ενός κόσμου πριν τον κόσμο;
που είναι πραγματικά κακοί;
αυτό που ήμουν να μην είμαι πια;

When the child was a child,

it was the time of these questions.
Why am I me, and why not you?
Why am I here, and why not there?
When did time begin, and where does space end?
Isn't life under the sun just a dream?
Isn't what I see, hear, and smell just the mirage
of a world before the world?
Does evil actually exist, and are there people
who are really evil?
How can it be that I, who am I, wasn't before I was,
and that sometime I, the one I am, no longer will be
the one I am?

Cheeks To A Rose

The first man
to compare
the cheeks of a young woman
to a rose
was obviously
a poet;

the first to repeat it
was possibly
an idiot.

1965 -2008 : Remember Vietnam...

19

In 1965 Vietnam seemed like just another foreign war,
but it wasn't.
It was different in many ways, as so were
those that did the fighting.
In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was 26...
In Vietnam it was 19.

(TV announcer's voice)
The shooting and fighting of the past two weeks continued today
25 miles west of Saigon
-I really wasn't sure what was going on (Vet's Voice)

In Vietnam the combat soldier typically served
a twelve month tour of duty but
was exposed to hostile fire almost everyday

Hundreds of Thousands of men who saw
heavy combat in Vietnam were arrested
since discharge. Their arrest rate is
almost twice that of non-veterans of
the same age.
There are no accurate figures of how many of
these men have been incarcerated.
But, a Veterans Administration study
concludes that the greater of Vets
exposure to combat could more likely
affect his chances of being arrested
or convicted.
This is one legacy of the Vietnam War

(Singing Girls)

All those who remember the war
They won't forget what they've seen..
Destruction of men in their prime
whose average was 19

After World War II the Men came home together
on troop ships, but the Vietnam
Vet often arrived home within 48 hours of jungle combat
Perhaps the most dramatic difference
between World War II and Vietnam was
coming home.. .none of them received a hero's welcome
None of them received a heroes welcome,
none of them, none of them

According to a Veteran's Administration study
Half of the Vietnam combat veterans
suffered from what Psychiatrists call
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Many vets complain of alienation, rage, or guilt
Some succumb to suicidal thoughts
Eight to Ten years after coming home almost
eight-hundred-thousand men are
still fighting the Vietnam War

(Soldiers Voice)
When we came back it was different..
Everybody wants to know "How'd it
happened to those guys over there"
There's gotta be something wrong somewhere
We did what we had to do
There's gotta be something wrong somewhere
People wanted us to be ashamed of what it made us
Dad had no idea what he went to fight and he is now
All we want to do is come home
All we want to do is come home
What did we do it for
All we want to do is come home
Was it worth it?

-Αλλά εώς πότε θα υποφέρω;

Σύννεφο Με Παντελόνια - Α Cloud With Trousers

έτσι που να γενείτε ολάκεροι ένα στόμα;

English Version:

Your thoughts, dreaming on a softened brain,
like an over-fed lackey on a greasy settee,
with my heart's bloody tatters I'll mock again;
impudent and caustic, I'll jeer to superfluity.
Of Grandfatherly gentleness I'm devoid,
there's not a single grey hair in my soul!
Thundering the world with the might of my voice,
I go by handsome,twenty-two-year-old.
Gentle ones!
You lay your love on a violin.
The crude lay their love on a drum.
but you can't, like me, turn inside out entirely,
and nothing but human lips become!
Out of chintz-covered drawing rooms, comeand learn
decorous bureaucrats of angelic leagues.
And you whose lips are calmly thumbed,

as a cook turns over cookery-book leaves.
If you like-
I'll be furiously flesh elemental,
or - changing to tones that the sunset arouses -
if you like-
I'll be extraordinary gentle,
not a man, but - a cloud in trousers!
